Beard Balm - What is it and how to use it?

Beard Balm - What is it and how to use it? Beard balm can be an absolute game changer for the styling and health of your beard. Here at Luxurious Bastard, we take pride in our firm but nourishing beard balm. In this blog we will go over what beard balm is, how much to use, how to use it, and other considerations. What is Beard Balm - Beard balm is a beard product that is made up of oil, butter, and wax ingredients. Don’t tell our competitors too loudly, but the magic of our balm really comes from these two ingredients: White Beeswax and Bayberry Wax. This allows us to achieve the goal of styling like you would find in hair sprays or gels, but while being able to maintain an all-natural product that is so good for your beard. Beard balm will add some nourishment and health benefits to your beard, but the primary purpose is to add styling and control. Beard balm will also add a scent boost if you use a scented product. How Much to Use - The amount of beard balm that you will use all comes down to the size of your beard. With a bigger beard you will of course use more than a smaller beard. If you have a beard that wraps and forms to your face, you will want to start with the amount the size of a nickel. For the medium beards that are six inches or less, try using the size of a quarter. For the larger beards you can start by trying the size of a half dollar. Much of this will come down to personal preference and trial and error. One tip to keep in mind is that it is really easy to add more if you feel like you need it, but it is very difficult to take some off if you feel like you used too much. If you are familiar with how much beard butter you use, normally just use a little bit less when it comes to beard balm. How to Use - The Luxurious Bastard balm is very firm but still easy to use. You should be able to get the balm out by using the back of your thumb fingernail to dig out the desired amount. You can also use something like a guitar pick if that is easier for you. Pro tip is it can be much easier to use if you blast the beard balm with a blow dryer for just a few seconds. Once you have the desired amount you will place that in your palm and melt down. Once it is melted and in a liquid-like form, you are ready to apply to the beard. With beard balm you have two main options for applying and it comes down to personal preference. You can apply the beard balm to the outside of the beard as your final step. This will lock in whatever style you are going for and form almost like an outer layer of protection. This can be especially effective for thin or patchy beards, to maximize the surface area of the hairs. The other method would be applying the beard balm throughout the beard, just like beard butter. From there you would comb through and finish styling with a brush is optional. Regardless of your method please know beard balm is intended for the beard hairs, and not the skin underneath. Do not work the beard balm into the pores. It is not a big deal if beard balm touches the skin underneath your beard, but that is not the intended purpose. If you have a short beard, try applying with an open palm and not using your fingertips. Heat - If you use heat in your styling routine from a blow dryer or a heated brush, you will want to use balm after your heat. You do not want to use any solid product before heat because it can damage tools like a heated brush and it makes the styling less effective with other tools like a blow-dryer. Considerations - Please make sure your hands are washed and clean before applying any beard products, but especially with products like beard balm where you will likely stick your fingers in the container. If you have any excess melted balm on your hands, you can just rub that in on any dry skin area of your body. We recommend your elbows. The final consideration is we just wanted to tell you that your beard smells amazing and looks better than ever!
